UMass is now 20-2 at McGuirk Stadium since 2006.

UMass continued to pitch a shutout in the first quarter this season, and have outscored opponents 20-0 this season in the first 15 minutes.

UMass also had its first second-quarter shutout this year after allowing all 28 points in the second quarters of the first two games.

UMass allowed its first points in the second half this season on a 68-yard fumble return by Rhode Island's Jarrod Williams.

Those points were also Rhode Island's first points vs. UMass in 96:11, dating to 2007.

Tony Nelson had his ninth 100-yard game with 158 yards. It was his second this season in three games.

Tony Nelson had a 3-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, it was his second this season and 18th of his career, tying him for 11th all-time at UMass with Matt Lawrence, who is now with the Baltimore Ravens.

Kyle Havens had his first-career 300-yard passing day at UMass with 329 yards on 22-of-30.

Kyle Havens completed 15-of-17 in the first half for 206 yards.

UMass was 7-of-7 on third-down conversions in the first half. The first non-converted third down came on the Minutemen's first drive of the second half.

Armando Cuko tied his career-high for field goals made in a game for the second week in a row with three (22, 37, 42).

Caleb Violette had his third punt of the season of more than 50 yards with a 59-yarder in the third quarter.
