- UMass won its 10th straight home opener and the 12th of the past 13 opening games at McGuirk Stadium.

UMass has won 11 straight home games against Rhode Island in the series. UMass now leads the Rams 48-36-2 in 86 all-time meetings dating back to 1903.

UMass outrushed Rhode Island 201-to-56. In Rhode Island's previous game, the Rams allowed just 36 rushing yards at Syracuse last week.

Hernandez posted his second 100-yard rushing game of the season with 167 yards on 32 carries. It was the 8th of his career and his third consecutive game with 100-yards rushing dating back to last season's Rhode Island game. He scored his first two rushing touchdowns of the season giving him 19 for his career.

Talley tied a career-high with eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Jesse Julmiste finished with 81 all-purpose yards on 15 receiving, 15 rushing, and 51 return yards.

Kirk Nelms recorded the first two interceptions of his career. He has forced a turnover in each of the last two games (forced fumble/fumble recovery at Holy Cross).

Perry McIntyre and Tyler Holmes led UMass defensively with nine tackles each.

Mike Lee had five solo tackles including two tackles for loss (12 yards).

UMass left guard Josh Samuda was named a game captain for tonight along with season captains Tyler Holmes and Emil Igwenagu.
