- Jonathan Hernandez rushed for 151 yards on 29 carries. It marked the seventh 100-yard game of his career.

Brandon Hill's made his first career start at quarterback ... he finished the game 5-for-8 ... first career completion went to Jesse Julmiste with 8:30 left in the first quarter for five yards.

Kellen Pagel also made his UMass debut, going 10-for-16. He threw his first career touchdown pass to Jesse Julmiste. He tossed his second in the fourth quarter to Julian Talley.

Emil Igwenagu scored his first career rushing touchdown with a one-yard dive over the pile to give UMass a 7-0 lead with 5:48 left in the first quarter.

• Freshman Anddy Moas made his first career start at right guard.

• Redshirt freshman Kirk Nelms posted his first career forced fumble and fumble recovery in the third quarter.

• Redshirt freshman Ed Saint-Vil forced a fumble and recovered it on the opening kick-off of the second half which led to a UMass field goal.

• Redshirt sophomore Brendon Levengood was 2-for-2 on PAT's and kicked his first career field goal (25 yards).

Jonathan Hernandez was named Game Captain for tonight's contest along with team co-captains Tyler Holmes and Emil Igwenagu.

• UMass has won nine of its last 10 season openers.
