Chris Malone is entering his third season on the Minuteman coaching staff, and his second year as offensive line coach. Last year, Malone helped guide an offensive line which included All-American and All-Atlantic 10 selection Maikel Miret. In 2001, he coached the UMass tight ends during his first year on the staff.

Malone came to UMass after spending two years as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia Tech. He worked as an assistant offensive line coach for the Hokies, in addition to assisting with on-campus recruiting, film breakdown and scouting. Malone was also involved in football operations, and assisted in handling team travel. During his two years as a coach at Virginia Tech, Malone helped the team to an overall record of 22-2, with the team winning the Big East championship in 1999 and the Gator Bowl in 2000.

Prior to his time working with the Hokies, Malone spent one year at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. He served as the offensive and defensive line coach, and also coordinated special teams. In addition, Malone was in charge of the strength and conditioning program at Fork Union, while also being responsible for scripting practices and maintaining video.

Malone earned his bachelor?s degree in physical education from Virginia Tech in 1996, then went on to receive a master?s degree in consumer economics in 1998. He was a four-year starter for the Hokies at left guard, and earned All-Big East honors as a senior in 1995. Malone helped Virginia Tech win the 1995 Big East title, the 1995 Sugar Bowl and the 1993 Independence Bowl, with the team posting an overall record of 29-17-1 during his four seasons.

Malone and his wife, Susan, reside in Holyoke.
