NBA Summer League Home
Former UMass men's basketball stars Gary Forbes, Tony Gaffney and Stephane Lasme will be taking the court over the next few weeks as the NBA Summer League kicks off. Forbes, with the Philadelphia 76ers, Gaffney, with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Lasme with the San Antonio Spurs, will be competing for roster spots with their respective organizations.
A day after the NBA Draft, UMass' Tony Gaffney has joined the NBA World Champion Los Angeles Lakers. Gaffney will have a chance to earn a roster spot as he will play for the Lakers Summer League team. Twenty-one NBA teams, including the 2009 NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers, will compete in this year's NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS with action taking place at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas July 10-19. Sacramento Kings Story On The Workout | Workout Video
UMass basketball stars Tony Gaffney and Chris Lowe had very successful workouts with the NBA's Sacramento Kings on Saturday afternoon. Gaffney continues to garner more attention as it was his third workout after previously spending time with the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks. For Lowe, it was his first NBA session. UMass head coach Derek Kellogg was at the Basketball Hall of Fame Thursday to speak to a large, enthusiastic group of Springfield elementary school students as part of the MVPs of Character program. Kellogg spoke about growing up dreaming of being a basketball player, and encouraging the students to chase after their own dreams, and to use their free-time during the summer to work towards those goals.
