Massachusetts men's basketball player Terrell Vinson was named the Athlete of the Week, as announced by the award committee on Tuesday.

Vinson led UMass to a thrilling 78-73 win over Elon in the 2012 Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase at the MassMutual Center with a career-high 22 points. He scored 14 after halftime, including a team-high three in overtime. Made his first 13 free throw attempts before missing with three seconds remaining in the extra period, leaving him one shy of tying the UMass single-game record for consecutive makes.

It was the Baltimore native's sixth double-figure scoring game of the season and 45th of his career. He also moved his career scoring total to 976 points.

Vinson will be honored at Wednesday's UMass Sports Luncheon, to be held in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center at Noon. Free parking is available in the back lot of the arena.
