Gurley Named UMass Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Basketball senior guard Anthony Gurley was named the UMass Athlete of the Week after his stellar performance last week, as announced by the Athletic Department on Monday. Gurley had 18 points against Sacred Heart last Wednesday before dropping 21 against New Mexico St. on Saturday to help the Minutemen improve to 3-0 for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
Gurley played over 30 minutes in both games last week, shooting a combined 11-for-12, including a 8-for-12 performance on Saturday against the Aggies. The Boston, Mass. native also had a season high seven rebounds against Sacred Heart.
Gurley recently scored his 1,000th career point with his final field goal against Rider and now has 1,040 in his career with 199 coming at Wake Forest and 841 at UMass. Gurley scored in double-figures for the 51st time in his career and also reached 20 points for the 12th time in his career in the New Mexico State game.
Gurley and the Minutemen will be back in action tonight against TCU at 8 PM from the Mass Mutual Center.
