Chaz Williams Named Atlantic 10 Player Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts senior guard Chaz Williams was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday. Saint Joseph's DeAndre Benbry picked up the Rookie of the Week award.
Williams averaged a double-double with 21.5 points and 10 assists in UMass' wins over LSU and previously unbeaten Youngstown State.
The Brooklyn native netted a team-high 24 points, nine assists and three rebounds in thegame with the Tigers, contributing 17 points and five assists in the first half alone. On Sunday, against the Penguins, he had a game-high 19 points and 11assists for his first double-double of the year and 12th of his career.
Williams has scored at least 19 points in all three games and averaged eight assists thus far.
UMass junior center Cady Lalanne was named the league's top player last Monday.
UMass (3-0) has opened the season scoring at least 80 points in each of it's first three games for the first time since the 1991-92 and just the fourth time in school history.
UMass, which is receiving votes in both polls this week, will return to action when it participates in the Charleston Classic, presented by Gildan. The Minutemen will face Nebraska (3-0) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
