AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's basketball team held its local media day in Amherst at the Mullins Center on Monday afternoon as the team prepares for Wednesday's exhibition game against Dowling. There was great media coverage as NESN was on hand for an "All-Access" day with Coach Derek Kellogg. The Boston Globe and Herald also staffed the event along with the locals from CBS3, ABC40, the Springfield Republican and Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Of note from the media day, NESN spent much of the day with Coach Kellogg following him from his morning preparation to a quick lunch at Antonio's to a guest speaking appearance in a sports law class before a special photo shoot with the Boston Globe. After Kellogg's shoot at Kellogg Ave. in Amherst, the coach went to work on the court at the Mullins Center where the media looked on. The NESN feature is expected to run next week when UMass opens its season.

After practice, Kellogg and his players met with the media. Among the tidbits we can tell you about, the Boston Herald's Steve Buckley, a UMass alum, was on hand to write a column for his paper. Marty Dobrow of the Boston Globe will have a profile of Kellogg in the coming days. Matt Vautour of the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Ron Chimelis of the Springfield Republican, Jerry Radding from the Associated Press and Howard Herman of the Berkshire Eagle will all have stories on Tuesday.

All of the papers had photographers on hand for up-to-date coverage.

In the television world, in addition to NESN, CBS3's Amy Lynn Stanley and ABC4-'s Nick Defelice put together packages on the team.

On Masslive.com, Erik Gallant and his staff shot many videos which will appear in the coming days.

The Daily Collegian had three writers on hand for the student paper's coverage.
