Bonner's Blog: A Postcard To Clara
Oct. 31, 2008
I have found recent motivation to re-introduce the blog. The spark for this motivation occurred after reading an article in Wednesday's (October 29) edition of the Springfield Republican. The article was about a Northampton High School senior named Clara Gardner who tragically lost her legs this summer in an auto accident. This Saturday night (November 1), Northampton High School will be hosting a fundraiser to help with the medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. The fundraiser is going to be a concert by indie musician Jens Lekman. My jaw dropped when I saw that Jens Lekman would be playing in Northampton to support Clara. He is one of my favorite artists. He is in my personal "top 5" concerts that I have yet to see. The other four members of this list include Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, A Tribe Called Quest, and Radiohead. He is a Swedish musician, and an outstanding entertainer. I tried to see him in Boston last spring, but the show was sold out.
I do not know Clara. All that I know about her situation is what I gathered from the story in the Republican. However, I would like to offer my support by encouraging anyone who does not have plans Saturday evening to go out to this event (and if you already have plans, change them!) It will be well worth the price of admission and it is for a great cause. Let's make this a special night for Clara.
This may be the shortest blog I have ever written, but I am really busy right now with basketball/school/etc. I just wanted to make sure that I was able to post something about this event. I'll be back to provide some more UMass basketball news, thoughts, insights, stories, and other nonsense throughout my final UMass season.
