Jim Burke '75 To Go Into N.E. Hall Of Fame

AMHERST, Mass. - Former UMass basketball team captain Jim Burke '75 is being inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in the Semi-Professional category on Oct. 9 at Mohegan Sun. He is joining fellow UMass alums Joe DiSarcina, Ray Ellerbrook and Bill Endicott, who are entering the college group.
Burke, was a star in the Worcester and Boston Parks Summer League. He played at UMass from 1972 through 1975. His best season at UMass came as a senior in 1974-75 when he averaged 6.2 points and 2.5 rebounds. He was a part of three NIT teams in 1973, 1974 and 1975.
He is being inducted from his days playing for Charlie's Surplus in The Worcester Summer League. He led Charlie's Surplus to four Worcester Summer League Championships during a five year period in the late 1970's. Teamed with former UMass teammates John Murphy, Bill Endicott, and Tom Austin while playing for Charlie's Surplus.
Burke was offered a tryout with the New York Nets of the ABA and played professionally in Germany.
