UMass Men's Basketball Schedule Unveiled For 2007-08
Sept. 6, 2007
AMHERST, Mass. - The Atlantic 10 has released the conference portion of the men's basketball schedule for 2007-08. Following a difficult non-conference season featuring games against Boston College, Houston, Syracuse and Vanderbilt, UMass will open its conference schedule at home on Jan. 9 against Saint Joseph's at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the conference schedule, UMass is also announcing that its preseason exhibition game against Concordia will be played at the former home of Minuteman basketball, Curry-Hicks Cage. The game will tip off at 9:30 p.m., allowing fans from the UMass hockey game at the Mullins Center against Merrimack, to make their way over to the Cage for a "retro night".
For ticket information, please call 1-866-UMASS-TIX. The games and times are subject to change as the television schedule is still being finalized. A majority of UMass home games will begin at 7:30 p.m., in 2007-08 to allow for more fans in the Eastern portion of the state to come to the Mullins Center in addition to greater student attendance, based on studies.
As part of the conference schedule, UMass will never play more than two games on the road or at home consecutively. Following that Jan. 9 against the Hawks, UMass have a week off before traveling to Dayton for a Jan. 16 battle. The Minutemen return home to host Charlotte on Jan. 19. That is followed by a visit to Saint Joseph's on Jan. 23. In a match-up of last season's co-regular champions, UMass will host Xavier on Sunday, Jan. 27.
UMass will play back-to-back road games at Duquesne on Jan. 30 and at Saint Louis on Feb. 2. Rhode Island travels to UMass to continue one of the longest-standing rivalries in New England for a Feb. 7 tip-off. UMass plays at Temple on Feb. 10. In consecutive home games, UMass hosts Fordham and Saint Louis on Feb. 14 and 17, respectively.
The Minutemen return the visit to Rhode Island on Feb. 21, followed by a home game on Feb. 24 against St. Bonaventure. UMass plays two of its final three games in the Mid-Atlantic region, playing at Richmond on March 1 and at George Washington on March 8. Senior night will be set for March 5 against La Salle.
The 2008 Atlantic 10 Basketball Championships will be held at the Boardwalk Arena in Atlantic City for the second year in a row, beginning on March 12 and running through March 15.
UMass is coming its best year since the 1996 Final Four season. Under Head Coach Travis Ford, the Minutemen come off a 24-9 campaign, in which they won their first postseason game since 1996, a thrilling 89-87 overtime win over Alabama in the NIT.
