Blog #1 From Las Vegas - August 22
It has been a great experience being out here in Las Vegas at the FIBA Championships. There are so many great players, so many pro players from the NBA and a lot big international stars. At the opening ceremony, all of the teams per introduced. It was crazy seeing Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Seeing all of the guys from the NBA that you watch on TV. It was something that I will never forget. It reminds me of what I need to do to get to that next level.
I talked to Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince for a while. I met Kobe. Coach K (Krzyzewski) knows me from Duke from playing against them while I was at Virginia. So we sat down and talked for a while. I talked to Coach Boeheim, he said it was a good opportunity for me.
It has been a good experience being here, but its tough having not played together for all summer like some of the teams. The first game was tough, we almost won the game, but lost in overtime. I thought I played well with 14 points, but free throws really hurt us.
The basketballs are very different. They are very slippery out here. But you have to get used to it. What's also different is the physical play. When you go to the basket, they were not calling much. I thought I was fouled a few times when I driving to the basket. I would have gotten those calls in college, but the refs didn't give me the calls.
In the second game, I'm ready. I got my feet wet in the first game. It's going to be a different day.
I have been to Vegas before for different thing, but this is different. There are a lot of scouts here and a lot of important people. I have to watch what I do and try to show my best. You never know who is watching. There are so many international people watching as well.
