UMass Profile: Raphiael Putney

Check out the long, lanky freshman forward who will make his debut this season for the Minutemen. He comes from the hotbed of basketball in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the US. Putney is part of the highly-touted freshman class of 2009-10

"Raphiael Putney is exactly the type of player we are looking to recruit at UMass," said Kellogg. "He is a long athletic 6-9 player. He is a little thin, but we anticipate he will able to add on weight. He is a very versatile player who can play multiple positions. Not only is he a great basketball player, he is an outstanding individual on and off the court."

Putney stands 6-9, and weighs 180 pounds and is expected to be a force on the defensive end of the floor, blocking shots. But he can also work in the post with his length.

Putney is part of the class of highly-regarded forward Sampson Carter (Memphis, Tenn.), aggressive swingman Javorn Farrell (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and dynamic scoring guard Freddie Riley (Ocala, Fla.) who signed with the Minutemen earlier during the NLI period.
