AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts basketball team has been selected to participate in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and has been slotted as a No. 2 seed. UMass will face Stony Brook on Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.

The winner will face the winner of the Iowa-Indiana State game in the second round, March 21-25. Every game will be televised on one of the ESPN family of networks.

At 21-11 overall, UMass is coming off its second-straight A-10 Tournament semifinal showing. The Minutemen have won 20 games for the second-consecutive season and are making back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time since the 2007 & 2008 squads also were NIT participants both years.

UMass is 10-4 at home this season and 4-0 in NIT games in Amherst.

Stony Brook is 24-7 on the season, posting its 31-game record in its Division I history. The Seawolves won the America East regular season with a 14-2 mark and were 12-6 on the road.

This will mark the first meeting in men's basketball between the two schools.

This will be the 13th all-time appearance for UMass in the NIT. The Minutemen are 13-13 in the tournament with Final Four showings in 1991, 2008 and 2012.

A year ago, the Minutemen became one of just four teams in NIT history to win three road games en route to an appearance in the Final Four. UMass is 7-2 in its last two NIT's with a runner-up showing in 2008.

The NIT First Round will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20. The Second Round will be held on March 21-25. The Quarterfinal Round will be held March 26 and 27. Each of these rounds will be at campus sites.

The NIT Final Four will begin on Tuesday, April 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Championship Game will be held on Thursday, April 4.
