Vote Putney's Dunk For GEICO Play Of The Year

From Sports Center Top 10 Highlight to nominee for play of the year, Raphiael Putney's spectacular dunk against Saint Joseph's has put UMass in the spotlight. Fans can now help make Putney's thunder jam the GEICO Play of the Year by voting on Facebook. If his play is this week's top vote receiver, Putney will be a finalist for the GEICO Play of the Year which will be announced during the NCAA Elite Eight.
Putney's one-handed slam over a defender vs. Saint Joseph's on Jan. 14 is one of four spectacular college basketball plays from around the country to be nominated this week. Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college basketball plays will be nominated as the GEICO Play of the Year. Each week's winner will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/BestofCollegeBasketball). The eight finalists will compete in a week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special which airs March 25 at 1 p.m. ET. on CBS.
In addition to recognizing the season's top plays, the one-hour CBS special will relive the season's greatest moments, players and traditions. The show reviews the GEICO Best of 2012 Basketball Tour, an interactive fan experience that visits 10 marquee games throughout the basketball season.
Midway through the first half, UMass forward Maxie Esho blocked a shot which started the two-on-one fast break. Chaz Williams stormed up the court and dished a nifty between-the-legs bounce pass to Putney who skied over the last defender for a the huge throw down. Putney's one-handed dunk is competing against three other plays from week four, including a three-quarter court game-winning buzzer-beater by Lindsey Wilson College's Chase Breen, a monster one-handed alley-oop by Ohio State's Sam Thompson and a game-winning up-and-under lay-up by San Diego State's Jamaal Franklin.

Indiana's Christian Watford won week one with his game-winning 3-pointer against Kentucky; Purdue's Robbie Hummel won week two with his buzzer-beating tip-dunk against IPFW; Oral Roberts' Damen Bell-Holter won week three with his full-court buzzer-beater against UA-Little Rock.
