AMHERST, Mass. - Jeff Salovski (Bristol, Conn.) was named the UMass/Dinn Brothers Athlete of the Week on Monday after his huge game against Xavier in leading the Minutemen to a 90-86 3-OT thriller.

The Big Deli poured in a career-best 21 points vs. Xavier, scoring 12 of the points in overtime including eight in the decisive third overtime. Salovski also hauled down nine rebounds for the second game in a row, as he also had that many vs. Temple on Wednesday.

Salovski shot 9-of-10 from the floor in the Xavier game and 2-of-2 vs. Temple to give him an amazing 11-of-12 shooting week (92.3 percent) along with 25 total points. His point total was more than his previous 10 college games combined, as he scored 19 in his first 10 games.

The UMass Sports Luncheon will be held this Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Campus Center, in the Top of the Campus Room. This week's guest speakers are hockey coach Don "Toot" Cahoon and University Vice Chancellor Mike Gargano.

Salovski is expected to be at next week's luncheon on Jan. 19, as the basketball team is away in Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
