AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Xavier Singletary hit a pair of 3-point baskets in a late 11-0 run that helped Boston College hold off Massachusetts for a 74-65 victory Sunday.

Singletary had a team-high 22 points and Troy Bell added 19 as Boston College (7-0) won the 6-year-old Commonwealth Classic for the first time.

Boston College led 40-26 at halftime, but Massachusetts (2-7) pulled within one point at 56-55 with 3:35 to play on successive baskets by Shannon Crooks.

Singletary started the run with a 3-pointer, then hit another after a three-point play by Kenny Harley. Ryan Sidney scored a layup after a Bell steal and the Eagles led 67-55 with a little more than a minute to play.

Monty Mack led the Minutemen with 17 points on 5-for-19 shooting. Kitwana Rhymer added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Boston College never trailed, pulling ahead by as many as 18 points in the first half on the shooting of Bell, who scored 15 of his points before halftime. The Eagles shot 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the field in the first half.
