Coach Travis Ford on the game
This Akron team is a very good basketball team. Not to take anything away ffrom them, but we were not executing in the first half. We were not playing our best, we gave up too many threes, we were not rotating like we wanted to. We made plays when we needed to. They went on a run and we called a timeout and had a little talk. In that timeout I think those guys decided they wanted to win the game. Believe it or not it was a very calm talk which is unusual for us. I thought we just needed to settle down and get focused on winning.

Coach Ford on the timeout called at the end of the game
During the timeout, I joked with them and said, "if you want to win this game we are going to play some defense, offensively we are fine but we aren't being tough enough." They were out-toughing us, slapping the balls, bodying up against us, getting inside of the basket and laying it in. Then the other guys started chiming in, especially the seniors, saying, "there is only eight minutes left to play, we need to be focused on winning." I think it put things in perspective. I think before that everyone was just in a fog. We gained composure and our attitude completely changed.

Gary Forbes on the comeback
I think guys just realized this was really our last home game. We couldn't lose this game and we didn't want to lose this game, especially the seniors. We realized how hard Tony [Gaffney] was playing and we fed off his energy. His defense against Jeramiah Wood in the last seven minutes of the game propelled us to play better defense.

Ricky Harris on Tony Gaffney
Being 6-9 he knows how to play post defense. A lot of our big guys were going for the up-fake, but Tony stayed on the ground. He figured that out early in the game. He learned how to defend it and made two huge steals for us. Those steals let us get on the break and run. When we jumped the passing lanes and ran the ball that is when we were playing our best.

Coach Kieth Dambrot on the game
We had a difficult start and a difficult end obviously. I though early in the game we played okay, we just were a little bit flustered. And at the end of the game I htought we were just tired. It was kind of like being caught between a rock and a hard place. I didn't want to play our young players too much, we put our subs in a difficult position to win the game and they just couldn't get it done.

Coach Dambrot on Chris Lowe
Contrary to popular belief, our game plan did not revolve around Gary Forbes. We felt like we could guard Forbes with Nate Linhart. My view of their team is different than anyone in the country's. I think that Chris Lowe is the guy to stop, not Forbes and not Ricky Harris. Lowe is probably one of the point guards in America, he creates opportunities for everyone on that team. Lowe has a lot of the same attributes that Lebron James had when I coached him in high school. He has the knack to make winning plays. Don't be surprised if they don't win a few more.
