MASSACHUSETTS HEAD COACH Derek Kellogg

Opening Statement

"First of all, it's tough to see a player like Ricky Harris end like this, with all he's meant to UMass basketball and the Amherst area with the perseverance and character as a whole. He has been a tremendous asset to our program basketball wise. I was fortunate to be able to coach him for two years. As for the game, we played a NCAA tournament team on a neutral court who was 25-7 and they shot lights out in the first half. That was my biggest worry. We looked young at times. They (Richmond) are a very good team."

On his second trip to Atlantic City and how his team progressed throughout the year

"We grew up a little bit, but, are playing a ton of freshman. Ricky had to take on a lot of different hats this year and he kept this team together. He played his best basketball the last month of the season and we are fortunate, we played our best over the last two weeks of the season. This was a great experience for our guys; they kept playing toward the end."

On the future

"If you look at our team, next to the teams we played, we have looked longer and skinnier. This is an important off-season for us, knowing the A10 and how hard we have to work. We know that and it's going to start when we get back from Spring Break."

MASSACHUSETTS SENIOR GUARD Ricky Harris

On Richmond making shots early

"It was tough. They had a lot of good looks and converted on all of them. That put us in a hole early. When you are playing a team like that you have to take of each possession."

On his career at UMass

"I am pretty disappointed right now. I have been here for four years and have one post-season win. This is UMass basketball and we are known for winning game. I can't accept that right, I have a lot of pride and I thought I let my team down today."

RICHMOND HEAD COACH CHRIS MOONEY

Opening Statement:

"Certainly we are pleased to win and advance. I thought we looked good in the first half and shooting the ball so well obviously helps. UMass was terrific to get back in the game. They had a lot of energy and effort and made a lot of shots, and outplayed us in the second half."

On Kevin Smith's performance:

"Kevin Smith's contribution for us was tremendous. That's probably the best game he's played this year, and he's played a lot of good games for us."

RICHMOND JUNIOR GUARD KEVIN ANDERSON

On the opportunity for redemption against Xavier:

"We're happy to get to play them tomorrow, and happy to hold UMass off to get this win. We're ready to play Xavier. We thought that game could have gone either way. Maybe if I hit that shot late or if just a couple of things would have went our way, we could have won that game. We're glad to get them again tomorrow."

RICHMOND HEAD COACH CHRIS MOONEY

On Massachusetts' comeback:

"They made a ton of shots, to their credit. Anthony Gurley was on fire. That caused us to extend our defense a little bit and they were able to penetrate. I don't think we were lulled to sleep necessarily. I think as the course of the game went, they were extremely aggressive, playing with nothing to lose, while we were trying to protect the lead more than being aggressive. "

On Xavier:

"We really came out of the last game, realizing that we really played a truly special game. I think we are looking forward to the rematch because at the end of the regulation it was a dead heat and they were able to win the game in overtime. We're looking forward to it. I know they'll be ready. I know they'll be prepared. I know they're a great program. We're just pleased to be able to advance and try to play Xavier again."
