Minutemen Top Xavier, 59-49

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - A 14-0 run midway through the second half sparked Massachusetts to a 59-49 win over Xavier in an Atlantic 10 Conference game Wednesday night.
Monty Mack led the Minutemen (11-11, 9-2 Atlantic 10) with 23 points, including 6 of 6 free throw attempts.
Xavier (18-5, 9-3), led 29-25 at halftime and held a 41-36 with about nine minutes to play.
But UMass guard Jonathan DePina ignited the 14-0 run with a 4-point play, sinking an off-balanced 3-pointer followed by a free throw.
DePina's tip-in and a 3-pointer by Mack completed the barrage that put UMass in a commanding 50-41 lead with 4:16 to play.
Xavier never came closer than six the rest of the way, as UMass hit 11 of 19 free throws in the second half. Xavier shot 24 percent from the field in the second half.
Xavier led nearly entire first half, although a 3-point basket by Mack pulled UMass to a 22-22 tie with 3:19 left in the first half.
UMass struggled on offense in the first half, shooting 30 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
David West had 19 points and Maurice McAfee 10 for Xavier.
