AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Keith Waleskowski hit back-to-back baskets to break a 54-54 tie as Dayton went on to beat Massachusetts, 66-59, in an Atlantic 10 Conference game Sunday.
The Flyers (19-3, 9-0 Atlantic 10) posted their ninth straight victory. UMass (9-12, 3-6 Atlantic 10) had won four in a row.
Dayton used a 12-5 run during the final five minutes to gain the win.
Although scoring only two points and playing only eight minutes because of foul trouble in the first half, Waleskowski finished with a game-high 18 points. Sean Finn added 17, Mark Jones 13 and Monty Scott 10 for Dayton.
It was still a 5-point game (62-57) with less than a minute to play, but Scott scored on a slam, and Warren Williams hit one from the line to give Dayton breathing room.
Dayton scored the game's first eight points, but UMass, helped by six three-pointers, soon made it a game. A three-pointer by Chadwick pulled the Minutemen even at 17-17 and a trey by Anderson gave the Minutemen their first lead at 21-20.
Dayton was on top 34-28, but Chadwick and Anderson hit back-to-back threes to even the score at 34 halftime.
UMass men's basketball (9-12, 3-6 Atlantic 10) returns to action Saturday, Feb. 14, as it travels to Xavier for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
