AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Temple survived a second-half surge by Massachusetts to post a 61-50 victory in an Atlantic 10 matchup Saturday at the Mullins Center.

Temple (7-12, 5-4 Atlantic 10), led 30-22 at the half and extended its lead to 44-30 in the second half.

But the Minutemen (8-14, 2-7) went on an 8-0 run, sparked by a 3-pointer from Anthony Anderson and a pair of free throws by Jeff Viggiano that brought UMass to within three, 48-45, with 4:55 to play.

Temple then went on its own 8-0 run, with Maurice Collins getting the last six points, to give the Owls a 56-45 cushion with less than two minutes to play.

Collins and David Hawkins led Temple with 16 points each. The Owls out-rebounded UMass, 44-26.

Anderson had six 3-pointers to lead Massachusetts with 18 points. Viggiano added 16.
