AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Tamal Forchion had 17 points to lead George Washington to a 76-61 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday.

Mike Hall added 16 points, Pops Mensah-Bonsu had 14 and T.J. Thompson had 10 for George Washington.

Rashaun Freeman had 19 points and Gabe Lee and Art Bowers 11 each for Massachusetts. The loss was the fourth straight for Massachusetts (5-8, 0-2 Atlantic 10).

George Washington ran out to a 12-0 lead at the start. Forchion scored 11 first-half points and Hall added 10 as George Washington dominated early.

Freeman had 14 of Massachusetts' 20 points in the first half - it's least productive half of the season. The Minutemen shot 6-for-25 in the first half.

The Colonials (8-6, 2-1) led 44-20 at halftime.

Massachusetts had a brief rally early in the second half, narrowing the gap to 11 points with a 17-4 run the first seven minutes, making it 48-37.

Mensah-Bonsu then scored two baskets and Forchion followed with two free throws as George Washington regained control.

UMass men's basketball returns to action Jan. 14 at Saint Bonaventure with a 7:00 p.m. tip.
