Coach Travis Ford on the game
I am very proud of the team effort and their commitment to the system. This was not the first time we have been down by double digits at the half. They kept responding and stayed positive. Houston played well, better than we did in the first half because they were attacking the whole time. The guys responded and made adjustments on their own. That was just enough to win. But, every time I thought we were okay at the end, Houston made some threes. We beat a very good Houston basketball team.
Coach Ford on changing the offensive set
At halftime, I instituted two new sets on offense. One set to spread the court out and the other to isolate Gary. We had a lot of driving opportunities in the first half, but the lanes were clogged by our own guys. We can't keep Houston from shooting, but we did make them take tough shots in the second half. They made a lot of those tough shots, like falling out of bounds shooting a three.
Harris on the second half offense
It was hard for us to run plays but we just started playing more of a penetration and kick type offense. We just tried to drive the lane and look for the foul, and if not we would dish out. They ran a lot of switches, but we just tried to get a big man on us and make them foul.
Forbes on carrying the offense
We're never worried about offense; we're always going to get our shots. Tonight you had me, Ricky, Etienne, and Chris all shooting well. Other people can score so we aren't worried about carrying anything on our shoulders
Harris on the game
The offense isn't on our shoulders, the freshmen came out tonight and hit some good threes, lots of people on this team can score, and we have a lot of weapons.
Forbes on what the win means for UMass nationally
We just want to stay under the radar and keep on winning. One poll ranked us 13th coming into the season and we just try and keep that on our mind and keep going. We want to make it to the NCAA tournament, but our main goal is just to keep winning.
Lowe on being under the radar
We definitely like being under the radar, look at Rhode Island. We just want to sneak up on everybody. We just play hard and work hard everyday.
Lowe on offensive pressure
We aren't worried about being pulled on offense, we didn't have many threes in the first half and we just came out in the second half and brought it to the basket.
Brower on getting inside
If I can't start shooting threes I need to score somehow and help out my team, so I started driving to basket.
