Former FedEx executive is now Director of Player Personnel / Assistant to the Head Coach

Derek Kellogg sets his staff for the 2011-12 season.
Tom Doherty is in his third year as Director of Player Personnel (Assistant to the Head Coach).
"Having Tom on the staff in his role has helped me transform the UMass Men's Basketball Program over the past two years," Head coach Derek Kellogg said. "His professional experience and leadership qualities have proven invaluable. We have had great success, posting a 46-24 record, and Tom has played a key role in the team's overall performance on the court and in the classroom."
Last season, as assistant to the head coach, Doherty coordinated all of the basketball program's community outreach opportunities, the Big E, JDRF-the walk for Juvenile Diabetes, being two. He continues to work with all departments to drive excellence throughout the UMass organization, supporting academics, compliance, and media relations.
Doherty spent 13 years as a Vice President with FedEx, heading up the transportation company's Eastern Region operations from 2003-2011. Previously to this position, he was the Vice President over its World Wide Hub in Memphis, TN, from 1999-2003.
He was a five-time Five-star award winner of FedEx's most prestigious leadership award and a three-time President Club recipient for outstanding sales support.
He attended Northeastern University and received a degree certificate in Transportation and Physical Distribution Management in 1992. He graduated from Dowling College in 2000 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Liberal Studies before adding an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 2009. He was honored by Dowling in 2010 for being one of Dowling's most outstanding Alumni in the college's 40 years of existence.
Doherty served on Dowling's Board of Directors from 2000-2011, serving three years as Vice Chairman from 2006-2009. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge for his service to his Country.
Doherty resides in Lynnfield, MA with his wife, Nancy, and their four children, Kelly, Erin, Mike, and Tara.
