Minuteman Baseball Clinics has two upcoming sessions, slated for Dec. 29 and Jan 21., in Boyden Gymnasium. The Holiday Hitting Clinic is open to players age 10-18 and coaches, while the Winter Clinic is open to rising high school juniors and seniors. MORE

2011 UMass Baseball Team Awards Announced

UMass baseball head coach Mike Stone recently announced the program's 2011 team award winners with honors going to Matt Gedman, Peter Copa, Ben Hart and Dennis Torres. Gedman and Copa were tabbed the squad's E. Joseph Thompson Most Valuable Players, while Hart and Torres shared the Coaches Award for most improved. MORE

UMass Baseball Golf Tournament Slated For Sept. 23

The UMass baseball program will host its sixth annual golf tournament next month as the event will take place on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. Non-golfers are also invited to attend the post-tournament dinner at the club, catered by the Ledges Grille for the cost of $50.00 per-person. MORE

Gedman Tabbed ECAC Division I All-Star

Former UMass third baseman Matt Gedman has been named to the Division I Baseball All-Star Second Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced recently. The teams are comprised of players from among the ECAC's 88-school DI membership who were first team all-conference selections in the respective leagues. MORE

Hall Of Fame Pitcher Mike Flanagan Passes Away

The UMass community was saddened to learn this Wednesday evening of the passing of UMass Hall of Fame pitcher Mike Flanagan. He was 59. Flanagan earned first team All-Yankee Conference and first team All-New England honors in 1973, leading the team to an overall record of 21-9-1, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament and the Yankee Conference championship. The 1979 American League Cy Young Award winner pitched in the major league for 18 seasons. MORE

Copa Signs Minor League Contract With Angels

Former Minuteman first baseman, Peter Copa, who graduated from UMass this spring, signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim late last week. Copa will begin his professional career in the Rookie-level Arizona League as a member of the Arizona League Angels. MORE
