AMHERST, Mass. - UMass baseball rising junior third baseman Nik Campero was recently honored for his performance in the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League this summer as he was named the 2012 CVCL Offensive Player of the Year as a member of the Mooresville All Americans.

Appearing in 42 games for Mooresville, Campero hit a league-record .523 (56-for-107) with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 37 RBI and 32 runs scored. He drew 33 walks, contributing to a league-record .646 on-base percentage, while striking out just 11 times.

Campero started for Team Blue in the league All-Star game and went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. He was selected as one of the top pro prospects in the CVCL.

This past spring with the Minutemen as a sophomore, Campero played in 40 games, starting 38, and hit .265 with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 runs scored and 15 RBI.
