STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - UMass baseballl's Mitchell Clegg had a successful outing as he represented the Vermont Lake Monsters at the New York-Penn League All-Star Game before 5,401 fans at Medlar Field at Lubrano Field last night.

Clegg, who completed his Minuteman career this past spring, pitched the third inning for the National League All-Stars and faced four batters in the scoreless outing. He gave up one single, walked one and struck out one.

The following are comments from Clegg about his all-star experience:

Honor of being named to the team: "It means a lot. These are the best guys in the league, so it's an honor to be named to the All-Star Team. It's been a great weekend. You get to know some of the other guys. They're just like every other team you play with; they're good guys who just want to play baseball. It's been really fun and definitely an honor. "

Being named to the team first year out of college: "It absolutely is extra special [to be named right out of college]. This time last fall, I started realizing that it was my last chance to make something of it [in college]. It's been a big change from where I was a few months ago pitching at UMass and now to the next level professionally. And to be mentioned and honored on the All-Star Team within a few months of that makes it extra special."

About outing: "I felt good, but I allowed a walk and a base hit. At the same time, these are the best hitters in the league. You don't want to make a mistake. You have to get comfortable with your teammates, but as a pitcher, you only get one inning to do it. It was a lot of fun to be out there."

About the All-Star hitters: "We face these guys week in and week out. There are some guys you say watch out for more so than others. When you come to an All-Star Game, it's one through nine, those are all the guys you're supposed to watch out for and not make a mistake. That's in the back of your mind, but you just have to make your pitch where it's supposed to be located."
