Baseball Heads To Atlantic 10 Tournament As No. 4 Seed

AMHERST, Mass. - After completing its remarkable climb up the conference standings, the UMass baseball squad will enter the Atlantic 10 Tournament next week as the No. 4 seed of the six-team field, it was announced by the conference office on Saturday night as the tournament bracket was revealed. In game one of the double elimination tournament, the Minutemen will face No. 5 Fordham at noon on Wednesday, May 20, at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio, home of the Cincinnati Reds Single-A affiliate, the Dayton Dragons.

Game one's winner will move on to play No. 1 seed Dayton on Thurs., May 21, at noon, while the loser will play an elimination game on Wednesday night against the loser of the #3 Xavier/#6 Charlotte matchup.

Having won 15 of is last 19 conference games, UMass rebounded from a 1-7 start to Atlantic 10 play, vaulting from the A-10 basement into a three-way tie for fourth with Fordham and Charlotte. By virtue of the league's tie-breaking procedures, the Minutemen were awarded the No. 4 spot.

With a sweep of Duquesne this weekend, UMass closed out the conference schedule with a mark of 16-11 for the squad's highest A-10 wins total since 1997. Overall the Minutemen hold a record of 25-24, the most victories for the program since 2003.

Single-game tickets for the A-10 Tournament games start as low as $8 for adults and $4 for students, senior citizens and children under 18, while four-day packages are $24 for adults and $12 for students, senior citizens and children under 18. Game times are 12:00pm, 3:30pm and 7:00pm on May 20-22 and 12:00pm and 3:30pm (if necessary) on May 23.

Live audio and video streaming of the Championship will be available for pay-per-view at a cost of $7.95 per game.
