AMHERST, Mass. - Junior pitcher Mike Dicato (Winthrop, Mass.) and sophomore outfielder Carly Normandin (Gardner, Mass.) have been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week.

DiCato is coming off a solid week that earned him two wins to improve his record to 3-1 on the season. Last Tuesday, DiCato helped lead the baseball team to the Beanpot Championship title over the Boston College Eagles at Fenway Park. DiCato took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a bloop single with no outs. The Minutemen defeated the Eagles 4-3 to earn the title for the first time since 2000. On Sunday, DiCato held the Charlotte 49ers scoreless over the first five innings before allowing four runs in the sixth. Dicato went 5 2/3 innings and struck out six to earn the victory. Over the last two games, DiCato has posted a 4.50 ERA (7 ER / 14.0 IP) while striking out 11 batters.

Normandin, who was also named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, is coming off a strong week after collecting eight hits in 14 at-bats (.571) with 14 RBI on the week. The center fielder tallied one double, two triples, and two home runs including a grand slam in five contests in six days. She went a perfect 5-for-5 in the series sweep over Dayton (12-0 (5); 13-3 (5)) with a double, two home runs and 10 RBI. Normandin batted a perfect 1.000 in three of the five games this week as she leads the team in RBI (30) and slugging percentage (.579).

DiCato and Normandin will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday. The luncheon will begin at Noon and will be held in the Campus Center in room 1009. Speakers will include baseball coach Mike Stone, women's tennis Coach Judy Dixon, and women's lacrosse coach Alexis Venechanos.
