Matt Torra Garners Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher Of The Week Award

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts junior Matt Torra (Pittsfield, Mass.) was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week, announced today, after two outings for the Minutemen in the last two weekends.
On March 5 at Delaware, Torra tossed 8.0 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs in a 3-2 extra-inning loss. He struck out a season-high 14 batters while giving up just one walk. In a 5-0 win on March 12 over Eastern Kentucky, Torra pitched a complete game shutout, allowing a mere four hits and fanning seven batters.
For the season, Torra is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.75. He has thrown 24.0 innings, allowing just those two runs and striking out 31 while walking six batters. Opponents are batting a scant .186 against Torra on the season.
The Minutemen, who are 2-6 this season, are currently in Bradenton, Fla. They are 1-1 in two games in the Sunshine State and have five more left, including an 8:00 PM tilt tonight versus Miami (Ohio).
