Baseball Home Opener Postponed
March 13, 2007 AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass Baseball team announced today that its home opener on Wednesday, March 14 against Boston College has been pushed back and will be played on Monday, April 9. With the snow just beginning to melt, Earl Lorden Field is not yet in playable condition, which was the deciding factor in the decision.
The Minutemen opened the 2007 slate last weekend in Orlando, Fla. against the University of Central Florida Golden Knights. UMass returned from the trip a disappointing 0-3, but there were certainly reasons for optimism for the rest of the season.
UMass will resume play this Saturday, March 17 against Dartmouth at the IMG Baseball Complex in Bradenton, Fla. The Minutemen will play five games in Bradenton before traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. for a three game set against the Temple Owls. The series, which begins on March 23, will mark the beginning of the A-10 portion of UMass' schedule. Fans can follow each game on the road trip via Gametracker on UMassAthletics.com.
The home opener for the Minutemen will now take place on Tuesday, March 27 against Sacred Heart at Earl Lorden Field.
