March 3, 2009
AMHERST, Mass. - Tickets for the annual Baseball Beanpot, which will be held Monday, April 13 at Fenway Park in Boston, are now available after going on sale Wednesday, Feb. 29. The day will begin with a consolation game at 2:05 p.m., which will be followed by the Beanpot Championship game at 5:05 p.m. All tickets are general admission and cost just five dollars, while there is also a 2-for-1 promotion available to all citizens of Red Sox Nation. To purchase tickets, fans can visit www.redsox.com/beanpot or call (877) REDSOX-9.
This will mark the 20th consecutive Beanpot tournament and the 13th straight for the Minutemen, who won the tournament last season. The tournament will feature the baseball teams of Boston College, Northeastern University, Harvard University, as well as UMass. Players from the participating schools will also be on hand for autograph sessions, and there will be appearances by the school mascots and Wally the Green Monster as well.
In last year's Beanpot Tournament the Minutemen first defeated Harvard 3-0 in the first round as Mike Dicato and Nathan Monroy combined for a four-hit shutout while Bryan Garrity headed the offense driving in every run of the game.
In the championship game the Minutemen took down Boston College 4-3 as Mike Dicato took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, almost becoming just the second, Minuteman to throw a no-hitter at the famed Fenway Park. The first was Scott Barnsby in 1997.
