Minutemen End Season With 14-9 Loss To La Salle

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts closed up the 2005 season on Saturday with a 14-6 loss to the La Salle Explorers. UMass was 16-33 overall this year, 9-15 in the Atlantic 10. Six Minutemen registered hits in the game, including Bryan Garrity and Anthony Santos, who each had two.

UMass held an early two-run lead only to watch La Salle answer with a run in the second and two in the fourth for the 3-2 edge. The Explorers built on the lead with four runs in the fifth, making it a 7-2 game, and despite back-to-back two-run innings for the home team, they held the lead through the remainder of the game.

Garrity also had two RBI for the Minutemen, bringing his rookie season total to 20. Graduating seniors Curt Szado and Jason Twomley combined for two hits and two RBI.

Starting pitcher Chris Lloyd was on record for Massachusetts, allowing three runs on seven hits. Anthony Boscaglia was credited with the win.
