Game Two Box Score

Amherst, Mass. - Junior shortstop Mike Athas (Holyoke, Mass.) went seven for eight with 3 runs scored and one run batted in as the University of Massachusetts baseball team swept St. Bonaventure in a doubleheader at Earl Lorden Field this afternoon. The Minutemen won the first game 4-3, before posting a 10-2 victory in the second contest. UMass now stands 19-16 overall and 11-6 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while St. Bonaventure moves to 20-17 overall and 7-8 in the Atlantic 10.

In the first game, the score was tied at three until senior Matt Boulanger (Westfield, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in junior Adam Stojanowski (West Roxbury, Mass.). Stojanowski had doubled, and moved to third on a groundball by freshman Frank Curreri (Weymouth, Mass.), setting up the sacrifice. Junior Eric Chown (Fall River, Mass.) went the distance, giving up just three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

In the second contest, the Bonnies posted thier only runs of the game in the second inning as they held an early 2-1 lead. UMass then scored 10 unanswered runs led by Boulanger and Curreri who both went three for four. Senior Jeff Altieri (Whitinsville, Mass.) scored what turned out to be the game winning run on his two run homer in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Keith Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) tossed the second complete game of the day for UMass as he surrendered two runs on just four hits. He walked two and struck out one.
