Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - Northeastern third baseman Tim Bush went four for four with a run batted in and two runs scored, to lead the Huskies to a 6-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts baseball team in the seven-inning consolation game of the Beanpot Baseball Classic at Fenway Park. The Minutemen fall to 14-13 on the season with the loss, while the Huskies improve to 8-16 with the win.

Northeastern opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. First baseman Paul Koslowski singled with two outs, and outfielder Jeff Heriot followed with a two-run homer to right field. Bush then singled and scored on an RBI double by designated hitter Jeff Maher. The Huskies increased their lead to 5-0 in the third, with another two-out rally. Bush reached on an infield single, then Maher and catcher Matt Morizio followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to account for the two runs.

UMass scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth, when senior pinch hitter John Seed (New Bedford, Mass.) singled, moved to third on a double by senior designated hitter Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.), and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Jeff Altieri (Whitinsville, Mass.). The Huskies concluded the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh, when outfielder Chris Emanuele walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI single by Bush.

Lefthanded pitcher Paul Koslowski earned the win for Northeastern, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of relief. Redshirt freshman righthanded pitcher Jeremy Demers (Easthampton, Mass.) took the loss for the Minutemen, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings of work, while striking out six.

UMass returns to action this weekend, when it travels to Temple for an Atlantic 10 Conference series. The Minutemen and the Owls will play at doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and a single game at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27.
