Baseball Stymied At George Washington, 9-4

ARLINGTON, Va. - The University of Massachusetts baseball team (6-7, 1-2 Atlantic 10) lost at George Washington (15-11, 2-1 Atlantic 10) this afternoon by the score of 9-4 in A-10 conference play at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va. GW scored five runs in the fifth inning and took two out of three games over the weekend.
Sophomore Frank Curreri (Weymouth, Mass.) led the UMass offense with three hits and three RBI.
The Minutemen jumped on the board with a run in the top of the first inning as a Curreri plated senior shortstop Mike Athas (Holyoke, Mass.) with an RBI single, but GW answered with a run in its half of the inning to tie it up, 1-1.
Curreri and senior Cullan Maumus (New Orleans, La.) each added an RBI hit staking UMass a 3-1 lead at the end of the third inning.
George Washinton would score five time in the home half of the fifth inning on four hits to take a 6-3 they would never relinquish. UMass starter Mike Crane finished off the inning, and started the sixth, before being lifted after two batters.
UMass would tack on a run in the seventh, but Avi Rasowsky out of the GW bullpen retired the last eight Minutemen to close it out.
UMass baseball returns to action with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, March 30.
