UMass Falls To Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut catcher Mike Leonard went three for six with a homer and five runs batted in, to lead the Huskies to a 17-3 victory over the University of Massachusetts baseball team. The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to darkness. The Minutemen fall to 3-8 on the season with the loss, while the Huskies improve to 8-8 overall.
Junior shortstop Mike Athas (Holyoke, Mass.) led the UMass offense with a double and an RBI, while senior outfielder Matt Boulanger (Westfield, Mass.) had a double and two walks. Senior designated hitter Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.) and senior first baseman Jeff Altieri (Whitinsville, Mass.) also drove in runs for the Minutemen.
Redshirt freshman righthander Jeremy Demers (Easthampton, Mass.) took the loss for UMass, allowing four earned runs on four hits in one inning of work. Righthander Eric Drown earned the win for UConn, giving up only one earned run on three hits in seven innings.
UMass returns to action on Thursday, March 27, when it plays its home opener against Hartford at 3:00 p.m.
