Mike McLaughlin enters his first season on the UMass coaching staff. McLaughlin will assist with in-game scouting and all other facets of the program.
McLaughlin was a four-year member of the University of Vermont varsity hockey team where he played for Mike Gilligan, brother of current UMass assistant coach Bill Gilligan. McLaughlin was captain of the 1991-92 Catamounts.
Following his collegiate career, McLaughlin played professionally with the Rochester Americans (AHL), Binghamton Rangers (AHL), and Jacksonville Lizard Kings (ECHL) in the United States and Timmendorf Strand in Germany. He was captain of the Lizard Kings and alternate captain of the Rangers, while the Americans went to the Calder Cup Championship during his tenure there.
McLaughlin has been active with the Gary Dineen Hockey Schools since 1985 and has been a director of the school since 1990. McLaughlin also served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons at Amherst College and was responsible for the team?s defensive unit and improving individual players skill levels as well as helping to prepare the special teams. Last season, the Lord Jeffs made their first ever NCAA appearance and were ranked sixth in the final Division III poll.
Born March 29, 1970, McLaughlin lives in Amherst.
