Garrett Waller Garrett Waller is in his 8th year, including his second as the Executive Director of the UMAA, after serving the previous six years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Development at UMass. In his role as the Director of the UMAA, Waller is responsible for implementing a comprehensive annual giving program for the Athletics Department and assisting the Associate Athletic Director/Director of Development for Athletics in campaign and capital fundraising. The program incorporates the UMass Athletic Association annual fund drive and booster groups for specific sports with an emphasis on lead annual fund gifts. Prior to that role, Waller was in charge of coordinating annual and capital fundraising efforts to help enhance athletic opportunity at the University of Massachusetts. Garrett joined UMass after working three years at St. John's University in a similar position. There he helped directed the Division of Institutional Advancement including the oversight of the Annual Fund, special events, and alumni and donor relations. He was primarily responsible for raising leadership gifts for the Red-White Club's Annual Fund Drive as well as indentifying and cultivating gifts for the Athletics' Division component of the University's $250 million Capital Campaign. The 1999 graduate of Stony Brook University helped raise annual giving by 19 percent in his initial year with the Red Storm. During his career at SJU, Garrett was responsible for overseeing the basketball program's courtside seating program at Madison Square Garden, coordinating the department's Bullpen Club Golf Outings, overhauling the university's hospitality events, implementing sales and marketing strategies for the 2004 Athletics Hall of Fame Dinner and developing the "An Evening With Coach" event. At Stony Brook, he worked in the Athletic Department's External Affairs Department from 1997-2002. In 1999 he was promoted from intern to assistant director. There he assisted in the development, coordinating and implementation of the "Providing Athletes with Scholarships" Campaign (PAWS) which was the primary campaign vehicle responsible for raising funds for the general athletic scholarship fund. He also created and oversaw the Seawolves Club which was the annual fundraising program for the athletics program. A former baseball player at Stony Brook, Waller is married to Lori, a former softball player for the Seawolves. They welcomed son Jake in June 2007. They reside in Belchertown, Mass.
