Athletic Department Staff
Jim Patulak has been involved with facility management at UMass since 1985 when he was named assistant to the dean for facility management. Patulak was named assistant athletic director for facilities, grounds and transportation in July 1993, then promoted to associate athletic director in 1997.
Patulak coordinates, manages and facilitates all buildings and grounds for the athletic department. He has also been a member of the Atlantic 10 Rowing Committee the past eight years, serving as chairman in 2000 and 2003.
Prior to his appointment at UMass, he worked for seven years in the department of athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as assistant athletic director for athletic complex facilities, with additional duties in coaching.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, Patulak has received a number of service awards and decorations, and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer W4. He has also been honored with the Secretary of Transportation Award for Excellence, and several Superior Performance Awards from the U.S. Civil Service Commission.
Patulak is a member of the Hampden County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Reserve Officers Association, the Sports Turf Managers Association, the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and the Football Hall of Fame (Western Mass. Chapter).
Patulak earned a bachelor’s degree in business management at Eastern Connecticut State (1982) and a master’s of education at UMass (1995). He and his wife, Deborah, reside in Amherst with their son, Joshua. The couple also has four adult children (Lori, Audrey, Tracey and Tim) and three grandchildren.
