Tim Kenney
Tim Kenney is in his sixth year as Associate Athletic Director for Advancement, a role he assumed in January of 2004. He is responsible for directing the UMass Athletic Association, a centralized fund designed to raise financial support for all 23 varsity teams and the athletic department as a whole. During his tenure, the athletic department has increased fundraising efforts by over 125 percent. He is also responsible for the daily operations of the men's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving programs. Additionally, Kenney is a member of the UMass Radio Network as color analyst for men's basketball games. He and Bob Behler won the Associated Press' Best Broadcast Award for Massachusetts and Rhode Island for their call of UMass' 107-100 win over Syracuse. Kenney came to UMass from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he worked in a variety of positions over the previous nine years. He spent three years as Stony Brook's director of alumni relations, where he was in charge of fund raising for the alumni association. Prior to that, Kenney served as Stony Brook's assistant athletic director for external affairs, director of scheduling and special events, and assistant director of athletic development. Kenney also served as an assistant regional director for the Empire State Games from 1998-2004. He has also worked for the Long Island Surf professional basketball club, the World University Games, Florida State University and the University at Buffalo. Kenney earned his bachelor's degree in sports management and exercise science from Buffalo in May of 1993, and earned his master's degree in sports administration and physical education from Florida State in May of 1994. During his undergraduate days at Buffalo, he was a two-time All-American in swimming, in addition to earning Academic All-America honors. Kenney and his wife, Maureen, have three children, Sierra, Jack and Drew. |
