Ice Hockey UMass Hockey Announces 2009-10 Schedule The UMass hockey team will play 15 home dates including seven of the first nine games as the 2009-10 schedule has been released on Friday. Included in the 15 home dates is a nationally televised game against Vermont which will air on ESPNU - now a part of the Comcast cable service - that will reach 46 million home audiences. (more)

Happy Fourth of July weekend everybody! While you are all preparing for parties and barbeques, check out this Friday edition of JTAM. Today we have coverage of former men's basketball players Gary Forbes and Tony Gaffney as they prepare for the NBA Summer League. Pitcher Mitchell Clegg continues to impress in the early stages of his professional career and some UMass softball players will be in action with the Stratford Brakettes this weekend. Don't forget to head down to McGuirk Stadium on Saturday night for the fireworks display that will begin shortly after dusk.

The UMass women's soccer team unveiled its 2009 schedule on Thursday, which is highlighted by a non-conference road game at Boston University and six home conference matches. The Minutewomen kick off their schedule with a night game at intrastate rival Holy Cross on Aug. 28 while the home opener is set for Sept. 9, against the Providence Friars at 4 p.m. on Rudd Field. UMass is looking to build off a 2008 campaign which included a hot 3-1-2 start, two thrilling double overtime victories, and the program's first win over Dayton since 1998.

Soccer Ben Arikian Headlines A-10 Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team UMass rising junior Ben Arikian, the reigning Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year, headlines the 2009 A-10 preseason men's soccer All-Conference team, as selected by the league's head coaches. Arikian led the Minutemen in points (15) and assists (seven), while his assist total ranked third in the A-10 last season. He contributed four goals on the year and scored or assisted the game-winning goal in nine of Massachusetts' 10 wins. (more)
Former All-American and current L.A. Kings goalie Jon Quick has been named to the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Training Camp as announced by U.S.A. Hockey on Tuesday, June 30. Quick is one of three goalies invited to the Olympic Orientation Camp. In total, 34 players were named to the training roster.
US Field Hockey Release
Three members of the UMass Field Hockey Team are among the 108 athletes that USA Field Hockey has invited to its Junior National Team Camp. Sophomore goalkeeper Alesha Widdall along with incoming freshmen midfielders Kate Heineman and Kim Young will attend the training camp at Babson College on July 16-19. There they will train with some of the top players and coaches in the country, including the national team staff, for the chance to compete at the 2009 Junior World Cup in August in Boston.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Monday released its Division I Softball Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year with UMass' staff of head coach Elaine Sortino and assistant coaches Jessica Merchant and Kristi Stefanoni being named Northeast Coaching Staff of the Year. This is the sixth time that a Sortino led coaching staff at UMass has been earned the honor, most recently in 2006.
