The UMass women's soccer team unveiled its 2009 schedule on Thursday, which is highlighted by a non-conference road game at Boston University and six home conference matches. The Minutewomen kick off their schedule with a night game at intrastate rival Holy Cross on Aug. 28 while the home opener is set for Sept. 9, against the Providence Friars at 4 p.m. on Rudd Field. Three members of the UMass Field Hockey Team are among the 108 athletes that USA Field Hockey has invited to its Junior National Team Camp. Sophomore goalkeeper Alesha Widdall along with incoming freshmen midfielders Kate Heineman and Kim Young will attend the training camp at Babson College on July 16-19. USA Field Hockey this weekend announced the rosters for the 2009-2010 Women's National Team and 2009-2010 Women's Developmental Team. UMass sophomore goalkeeper and assistant coach Kelly Dostal were both named to the Developmental Team as USA Field Hockey prepares for the 2010 World Cup qualifying and 2012 Olympic Games. Huge night for former UMass All-American lacrosse player Sean Morris on ESPN2. The 2006 finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy had four goals and three assists for the Boston Cannons in an MLL win against Toronto and goalie Doc Schneider on Thursday night. Also, in women's lax news, Team USA moved into the World Cup final as Acacia Walker had an assist. The NBA Draft came and went without a selection of Tony Gaffney. The UMass star is sure to get an NBA summer league invitation after some great workouts prior to the draft.
