  • VIDEO: WATCH THE ESPN COMMERCIAL HERE

Sam the Minuteman will be featured in a new ESPN commercial airing this Saturday. Sam will be featured with tennis star Andy Roddick and ESPN anchor John Anderson. Taping for the commercial was in mid-October and the commercial is currently airing, running through December 31 on all ESPN networks.

The commercial starts with Sam, Roddick and Van Pelt sitting in a waiting room on the ESPN campus. The only action through most of the piece is Roddick monotonously bouncing a tennis ball on his racquet. Full of frustration, Sam cannot hold back his emotions and swats the ball away from the tennis star. Roddick then apologizes and Sam and Anderson are relieved for the break.

ESPN's commercial feature is the most recent of several events starring Sam the Minuteman. On Sept. 7, 2004, Sam traveled to New York City and attended ESPN's 25th Anniversary celebration at the ESPNZone in Times Square. Sam is also currently working on his skit for the 2005 Mascot Nationals competition in Daytona Beach, Fla. He will also be traveling to local elementary schools, visiting hundreds of children in western Massachusetts.

But of course, Sam can still be found at all of your favorite UMass sporting events!
