Oct. 17, 2007 AMHERST, MASS. - Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Training Jeff Smith announced today the hiring of David Maclutsky and Heather Carr to the University of Massachusetts Athletic Training Staff. Maclutsky will be an assistant athletic trainer and focus primarily on the men's basketball team. He is making his return to UMass where he received his master's degree in exercise science in 2001. He also served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at UMass for two years. For the past year, Maclutsky has been the Director of Sports Medicine at Saint Peter's College after working as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Army Prep for one year. Prior to Army Prep, Maclutsky was an assistant athletics trainer at the College of the Holy Cross for four years. Maclutsky received his Bachelor's Degree in athletic training from Brockport State University in Brockport, N.Y. in 1996. Carr will serve as a departmental assistant athletic trainer. She graduated from Merrimack College in May 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in athletic training. While working towards her undergraduate degree at Merrimack, she assisted as an athletic training student for three and a half years with the Merrimack men's and women's basketball, spring football and women's lacrosse teams. Carr played for the Merrimack Women's soccer team for four years and was named captain for her senior season. She was named an Academic All-American and Merrimack College Female Student-Athlete of the Year among other awards.
