AMHERST, Mass. - At a Thursday press conference held at McGuirk Alumni Stadium, it was announced UMass Athletics and CBS 3 Springfield (WSHM-TV) have agreed to a three-year partnership which will brand CBS 3 as the "Official Home Of UMass Athletics." The station will be the television home for UMass' coaches shows starting in 2008, running through 2011. CBS 3 will also feature expanded coverage of UMass Athletics on its newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. CBS 3 will have a presence at UMass' athletic facilities and in many marketing materials as part of the agreement.

CBS 3 will work in conjunction with UMass to produce a 30-minute magazine coaches shows for both UMass football and UMass men's basketball: "The UMass Football Show with Don Brown" and "The UMass Basketball Show with Derek Kellogg." The shows will air on Saturday mornings at 11:30 a.m., giving UMass fans a preview show before the athletic action that weekend. This season's first show is set to air on Sept. 6, 2008 and episodes will run for 25 weeks into March 2009. The show will transition from football to basketball once the football season is concluded.

"We are very excited to continue working with CBS 3 as they have shown great dedication and commitment to UMass Athletics," said Jason Yellin, UMass' Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations. "In the past few months we have built a tremendous relationship with the staff at CBS 3 and we look forward to the next few years where we will have expanded shows of 30 minutes and in a time slot that allows our fans to get geared up for that weekend's action. We look forward to additional features and exciting segments which will look at the current and former players at UMass."

CBS 3, which is owned by Meredith Corporation, is equally thrilled about the relationship.

"The partnership between the University of Massachusetts Athletic Department and CBS 3 will benefit all of Western Massachusetts and ultimately the entire Commonwealth," said John Hesslein, the station's general manager. "UMass students, staff and alumnus, along with the countless thousands of UMass fans will now tune into CBS 3 Springfield every Saturday morning during the football and basketball season and get the very latest from Coaches Brown and Kellogg. The commitment of the UMass Athletic staff works well with the dedication of the CBS 3 Springfield staff as we work together every week to broadcast the UMass Coaches Show to the Pioneer Valley and beyond!"

The new "Voice of the Minutemen" Josh Maurer will serve as the show's studio host. CBS 3 Sports Director Scott Harris will produce and cover feature segments for the broadcasts.

CBS 3 first aired the UMass Basketball Show in January 2008 and finished out the season with a seven shows. --
