Media Relations Office
The University of Massachusetts' nationally-recognized athletic program is continually in the news and the school's media relations office is responsible for meeting the demands of not only the media, but of the department's many friends, fans and other interested publics. The charge of the UMass athletic department's media relations office is to effectively communicate to the news media and other interested parties, information about the UMass athletic program in order to positively promote the institution's student-athletes, coaches and staff members. In order for the office to meet its goal, staff members foster relationships with local and national media to effectively enhance the image of the University, its athletic department and the 21 intercollegiate athletic teams which wear the Maroon & White. As a part of its daily activities, the media relations office is responsible for producing media guides, game day programs, schedule cards, news releases and internet updates at www.umassathletics.com for all UMass teams. The media relations office also provides game day management and statistical services as needed at the event site, responds to all news media inquiries, arranges all media interviews and compiles and maintains the historical records of each team through the collection of results, photographs, newspaper clippings and video tape. Staff members also work closely with the Atlantic 10 Conference, Hockey East, the Mid-American Conference (MAC), the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the NCAA and the sports governing organizations to gain further recognition for UMass student-athletes and coaches.
