    Huge night for former UMass All-American lacrosse player Sean Morris on ESPN2. The 2006 finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy had four goals and three assists for the Boston Cannons in an MLL win against Toronto and goalie Doc Schneider on Thursday night. Also, in women's lax news, Team USA moved into the World Cup final as Acacia Walker had an assist. The NBA Draft came and went without a selection of Tony Gaffney. The UMass star is sure to get an NBA summer league invitation after some great workouts prior to the draft. Mitchell Clegg tossed three scoreless innings in his second pro game with Vermont.

  • Despite Tony Gaffney not being drafted in the NBA Draft, two Atlantic 10 players were selected: Xavier's Derrick Brown by the Charlotte Bobcats and Saint Joseph's Ahmad Nivins by the Dallas Mavericks, both in the second round.

  • So Real World Cancun star Christian Koegel isn't the only former UMass football player involved in modeling as Miami Dolphin Brandon London has taken to modeling according to this feature from the Florida Sun Sentinel.

  • If you were channel surfing last night, on ESPN2 many UMass alums were in action in Major League Lacrosse action as the Boston Cannons beat the Toronto Nationals, 19-15 at Harvard Stadium. Former UMass All-American Sean Morris was the star of the Cannons' win with four goals and three assists for seven points. Morris earned the Bud Light Game MVP for his monster performance. Morris also took over the Cannons scoring lead with 28 points (14G, 14A) so far this season. Former Minutemen Brett Garber and Jack Reid also played for Boston in the win. For Toronto, Doc Schneider started his third game and made 10 saves playing the first half. Jeff Zywicki had a goal and assist for the Nats. Game recap from Our Sports.

  • In the Women's Lacrosse World Cup, UMass' reps with Team Ireland posted an impressive 15-13 win over Team Japan. Jackie Rosenzweig had four groundballs and Merritt Cosgrove had three GBs. Ireland plays Wales for fifth place on Friday.

  • Team USA pounded Team England, 20-3 UMass assistant coach Acacia Walker had an assist in the win. Team USA will rematch with Australia in World Cup Final on Saturday.

  • In his second pro game, pitcher Mitchell Clegg continues to be unscored upon, tossing three innings giving up just three hits for the Vermont Lake Monsters in a 5-2 loss to the Oneonta Tigers on Thursday. Has has a 0.00 ERA in two outings for the Lake Monsters.

    The day of truth for UMass' Tony Gaffney is here ... the 2009 NBA Draft, tonight at 7 p.m. at Madison Square Garden on ESPN. Many draft services have Gaffney going in the second round. On Wednesday Gaffney worked out for the Miami Heat, his final workout. Check back tonight to see if Tony becomes UMass' first draft pick since Stephane Lasme in 2007. In the Women's World Cup of Lacrosse in Prague, Team USA (with UMass assistant coach Acacia Walker) topped Team Ireland, 22-5 in a quarterfinal. In the Real World 22 Cancun debut Christian Koegel's punting days at UMass were shown in the first few minutes of the episode. JTAM also has mentions of Chris Lowe, Erin Kelly, Jeremy Cain and Julius Erving.

  • ESPN.com's Chad Ford has his mock draft 6.2 updated. Ford still has Tony Gaffney going to the Phoenix Suns at No. 57, stating: Gaffney isn't getting any love, but he's a Chris Andersen clone. He runs the floor and is an off-the-charts shot-blocker. He would be fun to watch in the Suns' system.

  • In the Springfield Republican, Ron Chimelis says the Boston Celtics should draft Tony Gaffney.

  • The Boston Globe mentions Tony Gaffney as part of its draft preview.

  • Hoopsworld.com has Gaffney going to the Portland Trailblazers in the second round with the 56th selection.

  • In Westchester, LoHud.com has it story on its local residents hoping to get a chance in the NBA including UMass' point guard Chris Lowe.

  • If you watched the Real World 22 Cancun debut last night on MTV, you saw Christian "CJ" Koegel star in the show as the first character introduced. While he was talking, footage from Koegel's days as an All-American punter at UMass was shown on MTV! Koegel continued to reference UMass during the first show. Koegel was also shown wearing his UMass 2006 NCAA Championship ring throughout the show. What great publicity for the University.

  • In the Women's Lacrosse World Cup quarterfinals, Team USA topped Team Ireland, 22-5 in a match-up pitting assistant coach Acacia Walker (USA) against two of her players Merritt Cosgrove and Jackie Rosenzweig with Ireland. Walker had a goal and assist in the romp. Neither UMass player scored. USA plays England in the semifinals.

  • In the Boston Globe, UMass rower Erin Kelly is mentioned after being named to the team of 2009 College Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar Athletes. Kelly ended her senior year with a host of honors, including the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team, 2009 Atlantic 10 Sporting Award, and 2009 UMass Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

  • From a few days ago, former UMass football All-American Jeremy Cain was claimed on waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars from the Washington Redskins. Here is Cain's bio on Jaguars.com.

  • Women's basketball recruit Jasmine Watson is featured in the South Bend Tribune its a must read.

  • In the Boston Herald veteran writer John Connolly has a college hockey story on Merrimack goaltender Joe Cannata, who is coached by former UMass assistant Mark Dennehy, who compares Cannata to former UMass All-American Jon Quick.

  • The Hartford Courant has a listing of UConn coach Jim Calhoun's coaching tree which includes former UMass staffer Pat Sellers.

  • The Philadelphia 76ers are returning to their classic logo which was worn when UMass' Julius Erving starred for the Sixers.

    Check out the debut of MTV's Real World 22 Cancun tonight at 10 p.m., as former UMass All-American punter Christian Koegel is one of the stars of the show. Today will also bring Tony Gaffney's final NBA predraft workout with the Miami Heat, one day before the NBA Draft on Thursday. JTAM has great features from the Boston Herald and Springfield Republican on Gaffney. There is also news on UMass' reps with Team Ireland in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup former men's lacrosse player Andrew Recchione, who has entered the coaching ranks.

  • On Tuesday, in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup, Team Ireland beat the host Czech Republic, 21-10. UMass' Jackie Rosenzweig had a goal and three groundballs. Merritt Cosgrive had two GBs. With an undefeated record, Team Ireland faces also unbeaten Team USA and UMass assistant coach Acacia Walker on Wednesday in Game 1 of the Quarterfinals.

  • Former UMass lacrosse player Andrew Recchione has been named an assistant coach at Wagner College in Staten Island. Coverage comes from Staten Island Advance and on LaxPower. Recchione comes to Wagner after a four-year career at UMass -- where he helped lead the Minutemen to the 2006 NCAA title game -- and a stint as a professional player. Recchione was a player under Wagner head coach Jason Rife when he served as an assistant at UMass.

  • CollegeSwimming.com has a note on UMass' men's team: The Minutemen assemble a class that should put the rest of the A-10 on alert. Just about every guy is 21-something with another solid event. A heavy local accent ensures packed stands as UMASS looks to extend its conference.

  • In his column Springfield Republican "Hitting To All Fields" Garry Brown references: You're getting old if you saw Phil Tarpey pitch UMass to Omaha. That was back in 1969!

  • UMass men's basketball opponent Holy Cross is narrowing its search for a new head coach. The Worcester Telegram & Gazette has an update with many names mentioned including: former Boston University coach Dennis Wolff, current UMass-Lowell coach Greg Herenda, former Crusaders assistants Sean Doherty and Eric Eaton, both now on the staff at Quinnipiac, Notre Dame assistant Sean Kearney and Pitt assistant Tom Herrion.

    Big day of action for UMass' representatives at the Women's World Cup of Lacrosse. In Team USA's dramatic win over Australia, UMass assistant coach Acacia Walker had two goals including the game-tying goal in a 10-9 win. Team Ireland with Merritt Cosgrove and Jackie Rosenzweig continues to win as well. JTAM also has news on Tony Gaffney, who is now pegged as a second-round draft pick by ESPN.com's Chad Ford -- going to the Phoenix Suns. Gaffney finishes his NBA pre-draft workouts at the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

  • Check out ESPN.com's Chad Ford and his updated NBA mock draft and has moved UMass' Tony Gaffney into the second round at No. 57, going to the Phoenix Suns. Ford writes: Gaffney isn't getting any love, but he's a Chris Andersen clone. He runs the floor and is an off-the-charts shot-blocker. He would be fun to watch in the Suns' system.

  • Team USA rallied from a 9-4 halftime deficit tp beat Australia, 10-9. Assistant Acacia Walker scored the game-tying goal to make it 9-9 before former UMass assistant Sarah Albrecht scored the game-winner. Walker started the 6-0 Team USA scoring run to end the game as well. USA as Tuesday off before playing again on Wednesday.

  • Against Haudenosaunee, Team Ireland posted a 12-6 win on Monday as Merritt Cosgrove had an assist and two groundballs while Jackie Rosenzweig had two groundballs. Ireland plays the host Czech Republic on Tuesday.

  • Former UMass star pitcher Matt Torra was in action last light with the Double AA Mobile BayBears. The former first-round Diamondbacks first-round draft pick tossed 6 1/3 innings and struck out five batters as Mobile took on the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Torra got a no decision and has a 3.97 ERA for the season.

  • In local football news, UMass alum and former Northampton coach Frank Tudryn, Jr. is battling cancer and is featured in the Springfield Republican.

    Welcome back to Just Take A Minute. Happy Fathers Day to all dads out there! JTAM has a great feature on former UMass receiver Brandon London and his dad Richmond head coach Mike London. What a great professional debut for recently-drafted Mitchell Clegg (pictured) with the Vermont Lake Monsters. In his first game, at Lowell, Clegg picked up a win with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. JTAM has news on plenty of UMass alums in action in Major League Lacrosse action over weekend including Sean Morris with two goals and two assists. In softball summer action, Bailey Sanders won her fifth game of the season with the Stratford Brakettes.

  • Two Atlantic 10 pitchers Mitchell Clegg (UMass) and Pat Lehman (George Washington) both tossed two scoreless innings of relief in their professional debuts on Sunday for the Vermont Lake Monsters, after being taken in the Major League Draft last week. Clegg picked up a win as he struck out three in his two hitless innings. Here is the box score and the recap of the Lake Monsters (1-2) first win of the year.

  • In the spirit of Fathers Day, check the feature on former UMass receiver Brandon London and his dad Richmond head coach Mike London. There is also a nice video interview on London.

  • The Boston Herald has a great feature on the cast of The Real World Cancun which will showcase former UMass All-American punter Christian Koegel.

  • In Saturday's Major League Lacrosse action, UMass alums faced off as Long Island downed Chicago, 15-14. Chicago Machine attacker Kevin Leveille had a goal and assist but Chris Fiore's Lizards got the win even thought he didn't score. Recent grad Doc Schneider made 20 saves, but he suffered a loss in the Toronto Nationals' 15-8 defeat at the Denver Outlaws. Fellow UMass lax alum Jeff Zywicki had a goal for the Nats.

  • On Friday, the Boston Cannons routed to the Washington Bayhawks, 19-9 as UMass alum Sean Morris had two goals and two assists for four points. Jack Reid also played tough defense for Boston.

  • In summer softball action with the Stratford Brakettes, UMass' Bailey Sanders picked up her fifth win of the year on Saturday with a 10-0 win over the CT High School All-Stars. Sanders struck out six batters, while giving up just one hit. UMass alum Denise Denis was 3-for-3 on the night, with two walks, three stolen bases, and a pair of runs scored. Carly Normandin had a run-scoring double and a run scored.

  • On the Brakettes website, UMass alum Denise Denis is the site's featured player.

  • The Milford Daily News has a feature on former UMass baseball player Joe Kane, a native of Natick, Mass. He only played one year with the Minutemen.
